How to get MUR accredited once you have attended the NZCP MUR training - Hints and Tips
The mobile MMS team is happy to help you with your MUR accreditation. Below are a few hints and tips to help you navigate the accreditation process that are based on our own experiences. We are happy to help you out, just send us an email mms@ccpg.org.nz or give us a call 353 9926
The first hurdle A, B and C
Sections A, B and C are best completed at the earliest opportunity after your MUR training. Once these sections have been completed and passed, you can move onto part D. The information needed to answer these sections is gained at the workshop, from the MUR folder and copies of the presenters’ notes.
Once you have passed sections A, B and C the assessors will send you the marking schedule for part D, a CPD record template and Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) template.
The dreaded part D
A large number of pharmacists struggle with the requirements for part D of the MUR accreditation. There are six components. The assessors are happy to accept individual parts of the requirements if this helps to make it manageable.
Part D1 – List of local organizations and members and contacts
- List your local GPs surgery – GP, nurses, working hours
- List any neighbouring healthcare providers e.g. physiotherapists, counselors, specialists.
- List any local pharmacies that you may collaborate with and any fellow MUR trained pharmacists nearby that you know of.
- Add General Contacts (see below):
Canterbury Health Pathways www.healthpathways.org.nz
- Accesses Canterbury District Health Board contacts database, Christchurch hospital phone and fax numbers
- Has extensive contact details for other providers including Age concern, Quitline, Alzheimers society, Cancer society, Family planning etc
- Has full list (googledocs) of Canterbury pharmacies (maintained post-earthquake)
Pegasus Health www.pegasus.org.nz
- Has a search function for finding GPs in Christchurch, gives a map then phone number
Christchurch PHO www.chchpho.org.nz
- Has a contact list of the 5 member practices
Rural PHO www.rcpho.org.nz
- Has a contact list of member practices
Partnership Health PHO www.partnershiphealth.org.nz
- Has a contact list of member practices
- Has a contact list of Maori Health Providers
Part D2 – Two recently completed CPD sheets demonstrating an understanding of the reflective cycle
You may use any competence standard for part D2. The following link takes you to the CPD record sheets and the outcome credits scale. If you are a PSNZ and/or Enhance member you can complete your CPD sheets online (hint - make sure you save the data every 20 minutes while you are working or it deletes itself)
http://www.psnz.org.nz/public/enhance/what_is_enhance/Enhance.aspx
If you prefer working with paper, the plastic orange box sent to you from the Pharmacy Council of NZ contains a booklet of the competence standards that will help you complete your sheets.
Give specific examples of application of the knowledge gained.
Part D3 –Two partially completed CPD record sheets identifying learning goals that will provide outcome credits in competence standard 2
The types of learning goals to complete part D3 may include:
- Interactions between certain medications (standard 2.4.1)
- CARM monitoring (standard 2.3.4)
- Dosage forms (standard 2.2.2)
Be specific about the elements of standard 2 for your learning goal, do not just state competence standard 2
Part D4 – A written individual personal plan for maintaining peer support
- The minimum criterion for peer group attendance is six sessions per year (you must present a case at one meeting).
- You may state that you have contacted the MMS team to be allocated to a peer review group. (mms@ccpg.org.nz)
- You may state that you will consult with fellow MUR accredited pharmacists working with or near you, and the mobile MMS team on an ad hoc basis for support with reviews.
- You may state that you will submit your first 10 MMS reviews to the MMS team for peer review.
- You may state that you participate in the Pegasus Pharmacist Small Group Education Programme (six education sessions per year) and may wish to state if other MUR accredited pharmacists are in your group.
- You may list other education programmes you are involved in.
Part D5 – Evaluation Documents for Service/Quality Improvement Plan
You can modify and submit the quality improvement plan (QIP) template provided by the NZCP or write your own.
Part D6 – MUR case
- You must use the DHBNZ forms for the accreditation process.
- There is a copy of the forms in the folder you received at the MUR training or you can download them at the following link:
http://www.dhbnz.org.nz/Site/SIG/NPSF/NPSF-Templates.aspx - Submit everything for assessment: patient consent form, MUR outcomes report, MUR care plan, medication printouts from GP and from your dispensary software, any summary letters or communication sent to GP or patient and a copy of any yellow card generated.
- In addition, you must complete a summary reflection on the MUR process. This only needs to be one page long. The template is sent to you by the assessor once you have completed sections A, B and C, alternatively you can find a copy in the MUR folder.
